Read this tonight with all my boys and it’s just beautiful. Made me super emotional, read it to your children, with your children, on your own, lend it to friends and family - it is amazing!

Story-in-verse with a familiar character but a very moving read with intelligible life lessons for young readers.

4.5 stars.

If you and your children have read any of Haig's Father Christmas series, you'll remember the Truth Pixie, a creature who is cursed to only tell the truth. Here she has her own story, and we see her story.

Struggling to make connections in her home town because of her inability to stop saying hurtful (if true) things, she ends up meeting a sad human child, but finds her curs

I read a children's book after a long long time just because it was written by my favorite author Matt Haig. It was a delightful read with a wonderful message. A must read for every child and adult alike.

I put this book up there with the best of Dahl and Dr. Seuss.
Such a warm and comforting book for children.
It’s like “Reasons To Stay Alive” but for kids!
And my kids loved the artwork too.
Buy this book!

Such a beautiful book. I know it’s meant for children but I read it aloud to myself and actually shed a few tears. There are lessons to be learned for both the young and not-so-young in this book.

What a beautifully written book! So much to talk about with my class and they absolutely loved it.
They loved playing guess the next word with the rhymes and discussing all of the characters feelings.

I had to stop myself from crying in front of a class of 28 children but oh my goodness. One of them said to me at the end ‘I never thought about how you have to sometimes be sad to get what being happy is’ and I loved that they showed they understood it!

Thr truth is important for growing up. But

The only thing that doesn't convince me is that:
The truth Pixie told earlier is mean. Like you're ugly & stupid. But the truth she told Aada is more like Buddha truth: Nothing is permanent. More like emo song truth.
Pixie might learn to speak better quality of truth along the way to Helsinki where people can take the truth.

But it's children book. I shouldn't be too critical.
I should have this in my childhood.

Totally overrated! A sweet enough book with a couple of poignant lines, but I didn’t think the rhyming was very good and the storyline wasn’t that magical. I have liked Matt Haig’s adult books and I feel this one will be selling purely because of the popularity of those. A tenner for a very small book too!

‘Utterly wondrous… a story for everyone. Matt is a mastermind. The Truth Pixie is the perfect present – not just for Christmas – but for all year round. My book of the year!’

The Truth Pixie is something else. I hope that the something else is conveyed in my following words…

The Truth Pixie is the kind of story that will make you think over and over about its naturally moving qualities because you can’t help but be captivated by its witty and acutely accurate rhyming couplets that shine a light

I was first planning to keep this book for reading over the Christmas season but I just could not resist. So I just finished it after reading the rather pessimistic weekend newspaper and my firt cup of coffee. Next I grabbed the little book and I then gave in. A few moments later I now sit here with my eyes full of tears. I did try to fight back and not let the Truth Pixie entering my mind and my heart. I was only granting them a few tears and then move on. But then the unexpected happen... some ...more

[Wherever she is, whatever the day, She only has one kind of thing to say. This tiny treasure is told in a rhyming story which was beautifully executed and well handled. The story is for younger children but I'd argue adults wil

The Truth Pixie is feeling very glum. No matter how hard she has tried to make friends, it always goes wrong. The Truth Pixie can only speak the truth, which more often than not, offends or upsets someone.

She believes the only way to avoid hurting people is to stay in her little house, with only her tiny mouse for company.

One day, with no food in the house, she ventures into town. As expected things go wrong, and she flees – straight into a giant troll. He says he’s brave and strong and tough, a

I recommend this book for everyone. A brilliantly captured story with stunning illustrations that depict every emotional beat. A rhyming story that is best read aloud. (Though I read it silently and then ended up thinking and speaking in rhyme for the rest of the night!) This is a story about emotion and dealing with the uncertainties of life or simply just being different to everyone around you. Every parent and child should have it and read it together. But if you don’t have kids… heck, you sh ...more

Matt Haig has been reading me to sleep every night this week. Alexa (my Echo Dot) keeps telling me I've finished this book and that she's starting from the beginning but I always fall asleep before this 22-minute gem is finished. I think I'm going to continue to do this every night. I've seen lots of posts online from parents of kids with Autism saying that reading this to them is very calming. It has certainly influenced my sleep and how I've felt when I woke up in the morning!

Utterly charming and beautifully illustrated tale of a little pixie who can only ever tell the truth. At first, it seems like a curse for the the little creature, but when by chance she meets Aada, a sad little girl, the pixie's truthtelling turns out to be a gift for both of them.

This charming book is a great way to teach children that it's natural to have bad feelings sometimes but these feelings are rarely permanent and things get better, but not always in the way you might expect.

A brilliant book for younger children, both Daisy and myself loved the candy cane book spine and decided we would both like to read it. I thought it would appeal to Daisy's sensitive side and couldn't resist reading it myself as had heard so much about it.

The Truth Pixie is a lovely story that carries an important message about friendship, acceptance and self confidence.

I think this would make a fab Christmas present and conveys a brilliant message for children and adults alike.

Everyone and their dog should read Matt Haig. Do I HAVE to rant about my love for children’s book AGAIN? Fab way to drill positivity into children’s lives early. Teaches them to cope with difficult situations from a young age; I wish I could’ve had it when I was a little girl. Will keep my copy forever and read it to my own babies. Xxx

4.5 stars...this would have rated a perfect 5 stars if it had flowed more easily between the beginning and the ending...it felt a little like it was written by 2 different people. That did serve to contrast the dark of sad and the light of glad.
I love Matt Haig...and I love that I have a good friend that knew I needed to read The Truth Pixie!

Just incredible. I love the poetic, rhyming style of this book, the incredible illustrations and the absolute championing message of this book. I definitely cried when I read this (aloud to myself, so what of it?) because no one is too old to hear this advice, ever. Off to buy another copy for school.

Charming. Clever. Profound.

I read this book to my kids in one sitting and they were gripped the whole way through. Haig has successfully woven some valuable wisdom about how best to regard negative events, into an enchanting story that young children will remember. Very impressed.

Wow - what a really beautiful book. This should be a book that everyone reads - young and old! It is a beautiful rhyme that makes you really think and understand some of those darker days and appreciate the sunnier days. I learnt a lot from this book - and I know that it will be a book that I will return to over and over again when I need a little boost. Thank you Matt Haig for the truth!

Loved "Reasons to Stay Alive," by Haig and was so excited to preorder this for my daughter. It arrived today and we've read it no less than four times this evening.

Truth be told, this book is as good for adults as it is for children. Maybe even better.

After all the reviews I read, I had really high expectations for this and bought two copies sight unseen. I did like it but was not as impressed as I hoped. Maybe it's just that the whole thing is written in verse. I may amend my rating once I see how my kids and my students respond.

“You will step outside, and see from the park / That the light is brighter / When it’s next to the dark”

If there's one book you read this year.. let it be this one. It's tiny and short, but magical and wonderful - a story about light and dark and truth. Well done, Matt Haig!

Such an important lesson in this book. Today may be dark, but it won’t always be that way. Lovely rhymes (and lessons) from Matt Haig. Gorgeous illustrations from Chris Mould. A book that every child and parent should read together.

I wonder who started telling children that they should always be happy? Unhappiness is more common than happiness. I believe one should be content. I like the little Fairy! I understand how she feels. :-)
